Gotta Have Bright Jeans: Splurge versus Steal

I really can’t get enough of bright colors when spring and summer roll around. I love bold decorative pillows on the couch, bright statement necklaces, and all the great color in clothing this season…especially the bright jeans! I’m at heart, a jeans a t-shirt girl, so the opportunity to jazz up my go to look is very exciting. Tons of celebs including Cameron Diaz, Kate an Pippa Middleton, Sarah Jessica Parker and Rachel Bilson, just to name a few, are loving the look of colored jeans lately. On a recent trip to JCrew I couldn’t get enough of the candy colored denim adorning the shelves. You can pair them with everything from a silk blouse and nude heels for a sophistacted look to chambray shirt and flats for something more laid back. With my penchant for deals I had to do a splurge verusus steal so you know you can rock this trend no matter your budget. And by the way, I have to say the Old Navy Rockstar skinny jeans come in tons of different colors and are my favorite go to jeans in my closet. The fit is amazing, nice rise,  stretchy and comfortable and perfect for ladies (like myself) who have a bit of a booty and athletic legs:) Plus, they are under $35!!! SO weather you want a splurge or steal, this is a really fun and fashionable way to wear jeans so I totally recommend picking up a pair for spring!

Top 10 Spring Beauty Must Haves

When spring finally makes it’s long awaited appearance, I can’t wait to pack away my sweaters, store my boots and break out my bright colors, maxi dresses and sandals. I adore spring time since and I love that we still have an entire summer of warm weather, al fresco dining and fabulous spring and summer styles to look forward to. As the season changes, along with switching out my wardrobe, I’m always sure to update my makeup. Plus, picking up an on-trend lipstick like this one from Revlon is a great way to update your look for spring for under $10. For spring time beauty this year, I love soft shimmery corals, subtle bronze skin, neutral eyes and a bold lips paired with a pastel manicure and pedicure. Here are  10 of my spring makeup favorites!

  1. Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer: This is my go to for spring and summer coverage. It leaves your skin looking flawless and it has a rich moisturizing texture that gives you coverage without looking like heavy makeup. It’s perfect for warm weather and a go to for top celebrity makeup artists.
  2. Stila Eyeshadow in Sun: I love this and I’ve been wearing it for years! It’s a beautiful soft shimmery coral that looks great on it’s own or you can apply it wet for more intensity.
  3. Benefit Sun Beam highlighter: Properly placed highlighter gives you supermodel-like cheekbones and this soft gold shade creates such a beautiful and ethereal glow for spring.
  4. Stila Lip Glaze and Apricot: This looks great placed over a bold lip color to tone it down and add subtle shimmer or on it’s own for a sexy, nude lip.
  5. Bobbi Brown Ultra Nude Eye Palette: Bobbi Brown is knows for her perfect nude shades and creating the most flawless “no-makeup-makeup” looks. This palette is great because you get some many shades that look great on many different skin tones.

DIY Exfoliating Body Scrub

With spring just around the corner a body scrub is essential to slough off all those winter layers to reveal soft, smooth, radiant skin. I’ve wanted to make my own scrub for a while and after a failed (and sticky) attempt with a honey and sugar recipe, I settled on this salt scrub. I love it since you probably already have all the ingredients…olive oil, sea salt and lemons… in your kitchen! Now, not only does the salt act a as fabulous exfoliant, it also has therapeutic properties that help with sore muscles and circulation. Salt’s also odor free, so the lemon adds a lovely citrus scent while the olive oil acts to soften and moisturize the skin. I like to scrub away on dry skin before taking a shower, after a quick  rinse my skin is super soft, hydrated and glowing…just in time for spring!

While the recipe calls for 5 tablespoons of salt I wanted to make a whole jar so I went with a cup of salt. You can use sea salt, or if you want to be indulgent you could try a course pink Himalayan salt. I also used less olive oil…just enough to moisten the salt and then squeezed in half a lemon. Voila… super easy and affordable, DIY, exfoliating body scrub!

Fit Fab Weekend: St. Patrick’s Day Edition

Happy Friday. I’m actually 100% Irish, so I thought in honor of St. Patrick’s Day weekend, I’d pick three green or Irish themed things to make your St. Patty’s day fit and fab.
  1. Try a Guinness Stout float: I found this recipe on Martha Stewart’s website and I think it’s a cool play on the traditional root bear float and (bonus!) this version might actually be a healthy choice. According to researchers Guinness might actually  slow down blood clots and help reduce the risk of heart attacks…crazy, right? You can click on the link and read the study if you don’t believe me. So pour a glass, add a scoop or two of slow churned ice ream ( it has fewer calories) and raise your glass to the fact that Guinness is good for you!
  2. Sport mint colored nails: Mint colored hues are huge for spring and if you don’t look that great in green (that’s me… even though I’m Irish, not really my color) make your fingertips festive. I love the Revlon minted polish and FYI, it looks great with a tan come summer time. (other colors Chanel Jade, Essie Mint Candy Apple)
  3. Do the shamrock workout: Okay, this one is kinda cheesy, but you have to admit it’s also a pretty cute idea. I made a new printable workout using letters from the word shamrock and exercises that correspond with those letters. 3 Things To Have A Fit Fab Weekend

Happy Friday! With how crazy this past week has been, here are three things I’m going to do that I think will make this a Fit Fab Weekend! Hope you enjoy:)

  1. 30 Day Photo Challenge: I’ve lusted after all the fabulous food and fashion photos my favorite bloggers take and thus, I’ve wanted a professional quality camera for months. Well, it was my birthday a few weeks ago and I finally got one. I’m super excited and admittedly I have a lot to learn, and I think this photo challenge I found on Pinterest is a great way to get started. ( That along with spending some quality time reading the manual.) Whether you’re handy with a camera phone or you’re a photography pro this challenge will have you shooting everything from shoes to cool patterns to self portraits… it’s a great way to get some cool shots and grow as a photographer.   2. Try A Body Scrub: Earlier in the week I visited a great spa for my work as a beauty editor. As I went through the hydrotherapy circuit one of the steps included a body scrub; the wonderful woman from the spa informed me that in China (where she was from) they do body scrubs at least once a month to keep their skin healthy and glowing. I love this idea and it’s such an essential thing to do as the seasons change…but no need to head to the spa as there are tons of great at home options. I love this creme brulee one Laura Mercier because hello…it smells like dessert 🙂 Body scrubs help slough off dead skin revealing smoother skin that absorbs more moisture and looks gorgeous and more radiant…so it’s a total must do. I promise you’ll feel pampered without even leaving your own shower.
  3. Plan Your Workouts for Next Week: This is a major secret to success…whether it’s workouts, career moves or even your outfit, having a plan of action gives you a goal and a roadmap for getting there. I never walk into the gym without my workout written down on a piece of paper…truth be told if it wasn’t written down I’d waste some serious time…”hmm should I do the treadmill or elliptical, maybe I should try some weights, but the whole body or just legs, is today an abs day, ooohhh..I’ll do intervals..no I did intervals yesterday? What?!?! It’s already been 30 mintues”…you get the picture. That’s why I love taking some time on Sunday to write down my workouts for the week. It makes completing them much easier and I know I’m getting a good workout every time I hit the gym.
