3 things for a Fit Fab Weekend

2 Mar

Happy Friday! Here are three things I’m loving right now and I think they would be great to try this weekend.

  1. Get your 10,000 steps: In order to maintain your weight and especially to lose weight and l ensure you’re active and healthy it’s recommended you get at least 10,000 steps per day. I know that seems like a lot but you’d be surprised how many steps you can take running errands, cooking even making the bed! They all add up. However, when I started keeping track of my steps and I realized just how sedentary I actually was even though I workout frequently. I attribute it to the fact I spend so much time working in front of the the computer. I started tracking my steps with a fitbit pedometer and I can’t believe how much more active I am. So try a pedometer or even a free app like this one… get your 10,000 steps per day and you’ll enjoy a very fit weekend!
  2. Try winged eyeliner: Lauren Conrad does this look really well. It’s not a full dramatic cat eye but instead a slight flick and turn upwards at the end of your eyeliner. This look is sexy and perfect for a date night when paired with a shimmery shadow… but keep it modern with creamy pink or nude gloss instead of red lipstick.
  3. Swap basic jeans for bold bright denim: Super-saturated and bold colored denim is very on trend for spring. Celebs like Cameron Diaz, Sarah Jessica Parker, Rachel Bilson, Alexa Chung and many more can’t get enough of it since It’s a fun way to switch up the basic jeans and tee. Pair bold colored jeans with a leather jacket for an edgy look or top with a chambray shirt for a chic, low key brunch outfit.

Wishing you a Fit Fab Weekend!

Under $100: Perfectly Preppy Spring Must Haves

29 Feb

Give me a summer on Cape Cod, a clam bake, a nautical striped shirt and some Sperrys and I am one happy girl. There’s just something about the preppy pieces that I just love. This spring, preppy is totally on trend with bright, bold colors and subtle menswear influences. 3 things for a Fit Fab Weekend…Academy Awards Edition

24 Feb

With the Academy Awards on Sunday I thought I’d offer three things I think will make for a Fit Fab Weekend that are inspired by  some of the nominated films. There are great movies and performances up for awards this year (Melissa McCarthy I’m talking about you…I mean how can you not root for Sookie from Gilmore Girls) Plus I can’t wait to see all the gorgeous dresses from Emma Stone, Jessica Chastain and more. I hope you enjoy and that you have a Fit Fab Weekend!

1. Go Parisian with a Midnight in Paris…breakfast: Okay so maybe you can’t stroll the streets of Paris like Owen Wilson in the movie, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have your own Parisian experience at home. Don some red lipstick and nautical stripes, pour yourself a great cup of coffee, or cafe au lait to be more authentic, and sit down with some fresh fruit, scrambled or soft boiled eggs and  even a small pastry. Enjoy leisurely leafing through the paper or maybe an InStyle Magazine . Take a stroll through your neighborhood afterward and have an utterly relaxing start to your day. Now if you haven’t seen Midnight in Paris yet plan on watching it that evening for a perfectly Parisian day:) (FYI it’s fabulous and will leave you even more in love with Owen Wilson and totally coveting Rachel McAdams’s wardrobe.)

2. Channel your inner Marilyn with My Week with Marilyn waves: That voice, those eyes, that mystique…Marilyn had it all. I love the soft, sexy, tousled bob Michelle Willaim’s sported in the film and it’s actually a very simple style you can recreate at home. The principle works with many different hair lengths and it’s perfect for the weekend.

  • start with wet hair and spritz volumizer into the roots.
  • blow your hair dry with a round brush
  • curl section with a curling iron ( I like a 1 to 1.5 inch barrel iron because I think soft waves look more modern than pin tight curls)
  • wrap the curl around your finger and pin in to your head to cool.
  • let curls cool completely ( I like to do my makeup during this time) and spritz with light hold hairspray
  • undo pins, let curls fall and shake through with your fingers for soft sexy “Marilyn” worthy hair.

3. Enjoy a little help  from well, The Help: I’ll never forget those words Aibileen Clark said…”You is kind. You is smart. You is important.” I took them to heart and think of them everyday in fact, I keep this on my” Inspiration” Pinterest board.

Wishing you a Fit Fab Weekend! Enjoy the Oscars…I can’t wait to see the dresses:)

Outfit Idea: 3 Ways To Wear A Striped Tee

15 Feb

If I’m out shopping and I come across anything with stripes…chances are it’s coming home with me. I love the nautical inspiration and wearing a stripes makes me feel classic like Grace Kelly with a hint of Parisian chic.

If you don’t already have a striped top you’ll want to put one on your must have list for spring. As you can see from the collage above, striped tees are really versatile, complementing many different personal styles, and make outfits a little more visually interesting than just a plain t-shirt. I wear mine at least once a week and love styling it with everything from jeans to leather shorts to military jackets.

If you’re looking for an investment piece I’d go with Saint James but if you want a more budget friendly buy then everyone from Gap to H&M to uniqulo has a striped shirt for under 20 dollars. It a a great purchase you’ll wear from season to season that will add polish and sophistication to every outfit… and trust me pretty soon you’ll be a stripe enthusiast too:)

Here are details on three ways to wear stripes…

Striped top is from Madewell and I also love this one from StyleMint

  • Madewell leather jacket: It’s sold out online but I have seen it on the store
  • Madewell skirt: full skirts like this are great for spring and summer. This look would also be great with a maxi skirt.
  • Madewell suede flats

Outfit Idea: Fun with red pants, animal print and statement jewelry

26 Jan

Red Pants, Leopard and Neutrals...and of course statement jewelry

Every morning when I wake up I can’t wait to check out what my favorite style bloggers from Cupcakes and Cashmere, Brooklyn Blonde and Sterling Style are wearing. Seeing these real girls put together amazing outfits not only gives me great ideas for what to wear but it also inspired me to have a little fun with Instagram and  do an outfit post of my own.

After what has seemed like an eternity of rainy days here in Seattle (by the way, it’s totally true…it rains here A LOT!) I was inspired to put on the red trousers I bought at Madewell a few months ago and combat all the gray skies with some color. They are a wool gaberdine and beyond comfortable, easy to run around and do my errands in and surprisingly flattering given the front pleats. I paired them with one of my favorite crew neck animal print wool sweaters and put on a statement necklace with two big bracelets.  I love big jewelry which might be because I share a birthday with late great Elizabeth Taylor;). Nude heels helped to keep the focus on the pants and lengthen my leg line. Yes, this look is a bold but I loved it and felt so great in my pop of color it helped make the gray days fade away.

  • If you want to tone the look down a little you could try a nautical striped shirt and ballet flats instead.
  • If you go with animal print make sure it’s a sophisticated print like the blouse in the Polyvore collage above.
  • I love big jewelry but not big price tags so I get most of my stuff from JCrew and Forever21. It’s amazing how some $10 statement jewels can make a simple jeans and t-shirt look super expensive;)
  • The bracelets and sweater in my pictures above are old and I don’t know if you can get them anymore but if you’re interested you can click on the Polyvore collage above for details on how to get a similar look.
